Publication Date: 15 November 2018

Fans of Serafina and the Black Cloak and The Night Gardener will devour Shadow Weaver, the first in a dark middle-grade fantasy duology that's filled with shadows, danger, magic, and has the feel of a new classic.

Emmeline has grown up with a gift. Since she was a baby, she has been able to control shadows. And her only friend and companion is her own shadow, Dar.

Disaster strikes when a noble and his family visits their home and offers to cure Emmeline of magic. Dar promises to change the noble's mind if Emmeline will help her become flesh as she once was. Emmeline agrees, and the next morning, the man is found in a coma. Frightened, Emmeline and Dar flee.

With the noble's guards on her trail, Emmeline's only hope of clearing her name is to escape capture and perform the ritual that will set Dar free. But Emmeline's not entirely sure she can trust Dar anymore, and it's hard to keep secrets from someone tethered to your feet.

About the Author

MarcyKate Connolly is a New York Times bestselling children's book author who lives in New England with her family and a grumble of pugs. Like the main character in her Shadow Weaver duology, she once had an imaginary friend who did very naughty things, like eating directly from the sugar bowl and playing hide-and-seek with her parents-without telling them-whenever they went department store shopping.

Later in life, she graduated from Hampshire College (a magical place where they don't give you grades) where she wrote an opera sequel to Hamlet as the equivalent of senior thesis. It was also there that she first fell in love with plotting and has been dreaming up new ways to make life difficult for her characters ever since.
