The Atlas of Tolkien's Middle-earth : The indispensable guide to the geography of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion
ISBN: 9780008194512
Publication Date: 15 June 2017

Find your way through every part of J.R.R. Tolkien's great creation, from the Middle-earth of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to the undying lands of the West

The Atlas of Tolkien's Middle-earth is an essential guide to the geography of Middle-earth, from its founding in the Elder Days - as recounted in The Silmarillion - to the Third Age of The Lord of the Rings, including the journeys of Bilbo, Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring. Hundreds of maps and diagrams survey the journeys of the principal characters day by day - including all the battles and key locations of the First, Second and Third Ages.

Plans and descriptions of castles, buildings and distinctive landforms accompany thematic maps describing climate, vegetation, languages and population throughout the history of Middle-earth.

About the Author

Karen Wynn Fonstad was a noted cartographer and geography lecturer whose admiration for J.R.R. Tolkien's books resulted in the first serious attempt to create a coherent atlas of Middle-earth in 1981. This was fully revised ten years later to accommodate Tolkien's expanding legendarium following the publication of nine volumes of The History of Middle-earth, and this third edition followed in 2001. Although Karen Wynn Fonstead died in 2005, her Atlas of Tolkien's Middle-earth remains the most ambitious and exhaustive book on the subject.
