Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell star in this drama based on real events. Set in Durham, North Carolina in 1971, civil rights activist Ann Atwater (Henson) becomes a spokesperson for the African American population of her town after the local school burns to the ground. With segregation prevalent in schools, the black children have nowhere to go, but the parents of the white school refuse to let them in. When Ann strikes up an unlikely friendship with C.P.
